With an ink inscription to recto of title page dated 1739. \'John Noble aught this book and if this book hapins to tain this writt will sho that it is min and if an onest man he be he will restore this book again to me and if he do not as i say remember on the latter day and if he do not as ofter remember on the pens of Hell 1739\'.

Collated, complete.

An early edition of this popular work, published after the known third edition of 1730.

Thomas Shepard was regarded as one of the foremost Puritan ministers of his day. He was esteemed in the company of individuals like Richard Mather and John Cotton. He was particularly intersted in Puritan ministry to the Massachusetts Native Americans. He wrote several other works such as The Church Membership of Children and Their Right to Baptism, The Parable of the Ten Virgins and Theses Sabbaticae.

CONDITION

In a full calf binding. Externally, sound with slight rubbing. Loss to head and tail of spine. Evidence of library label removal to head of spine. Bookplate of Oyne Free Church Library to front pastedown. J Lewis signature to recto of front endpaper dated 1836. Inscription by John Noble, 1739 to verso of title page. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are age toned with the odd spot throughout. Overall: GOOD.
