This item is a wonderful,original document dated 1735, offerdeford, Maine; where William Pepperell has written and signed three times within the text, a bond between Pepperell and Abraham Townsend and Thomas Edgecomb....signed at bottom by Abraham Townsend and Thomas Edgecomb (signatures partially removed showing the bond is cancelled)...Charles Frost, Mary Chauncy and Mary Bragdon. Document is 8x13, folds, else in overall good condition.

Sir William Pepperrell, 1st Baronet(27 June 1696 – 6 July 1759) was a merchant and soldier in ColonialMassachusetts. He is widely remembered for organizing, financing, and leading the1745 expeditionthat captured theFrenchgarrison atFortress LouisbourgduringKing George\'s War. During his day Pepperrell was called \"the hero of Louisburg,\" a victory celebrated in the name ofLouisburg SquareinBoston\'sBeacon Hillneighborhood.
