1744 SeutterMap- Imperium Russiae Magnae

Matthaeus Seutter was born in 1685, the son of a goldsmith in Augsburg. In 1710, he established his own publishing house and print shop andproduced a great number of maps, atlases, and globes. Seutter\'s most well-known works are the 1725 \'Atlas Geographicus oder Accurate Vorstellung der ganzen Welt\' with 46 maps, the 1734 \'Grosser Atlas\' with 131 maps, and the 1744 pocket atlas \'Atlas Minor\' with 64 maps.

Thismap of the huge Russian Empire comes from\'Atlas Minor\' and was engraved by Tobias Lotter.It shows an incredible amount of detail to the regions beyond the European core, each with its own original hand colouring.The detail in the farEastern part is not that accurate with a distorted Kamchatka peninsula nd some fictitious islands. \'Corea\' is shown as part of Russian Manchuria and southern Japan appears on the Eastern edge of the map. There is afinevignette title in thebottom rightshowing an agriculturalscene as well as a military one. There is a scale of distancein thebottomright and extra decoration in the form of galleons in the Arctic Ocean.

Themap measures 10\" by 8\", hasoriginal washhand colouring, and is in good condition but withnarrow blank margins.

Themap is guaranteed to be over260 years old.
