N.D. Circa 18th Century;Ethiopia/Northern Africa; Illustrated; Parchment; Leather over Wood Boards; (147 Leaves)294 Pages (Appears to be Complete); w4.2\"xh7.8\", 2.2\" Thick; Ge\'ez Text; Extremely Rare!!!

Not sure if there is a date in here, my estimate would be mid/late 18th Century, but could be older. ONE OF A full leather cover design with ornate stamped boards with Cross centers,

  • Pages on parchment (likely goatskin),24 lines per pagein ge\'ez textin black ink,
  • With some red ink highlights, withEight Brilliant Colorful Paintings,
  • (Including Daniel/Lion\'s Den, St. George and the Dragon, Christ Blessing Mary Magdalene, Nativity, Annunciation, Flight to Egypt, Baptism in Jordan, Madonna/Two Angels, St. Mark)and a Great Piece of has close historical ties with all three of the world\'s major Abrahamic religions. In the 4th century, the region was one of the first in the world to officially adopt Christianity as the state religion.
    • Ge\'ez is an ancient South Semitic language that originated in Eritrea and the northern region of Ethiopia in the Horn of Africa. It later became the official language of the Kingdom of Aksum and Ethiopian imperial court.
    • Today, Ge\'ez remains only as the main language used in the liturgy of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the Ethiopian Catholic Church, the Eritrean Catholic Church, and the Beta Israel Jewish wear to edges, spine missing a few pieces of leather, little glue added to front mid hinge/little to spine leather, first and last leaf was originally glue to inner board but has some writing on it so left it as is.
    • Text block a little loose but all together, would handle with care, dirty parchment,some blemishing throughout, plates are darkened, few holes here and there/loss of text to those holes, few sewn repairs to some pages, stitch marks going down side margins. Hinges holding well.
