Thomas Gilbert (1715-1797) Noted as \"Leader of the New England Tories.\" Born in Freetown, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Elected to the General Assembly. Prominent in local affairs and opposition to the Stamp Act participants. Appointed in 1774 by General Thomas Gage to lead 300 loyalists to maintain Royal authority in Freetown and Taunton. Gilbert remained loyal throughout the Revolutionary War. His lands were confiscated and he emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1783.

This is the second and last of seller\'s Gilbert items.
