Rare original 1764 deed document between Peter Myers and Benedict Swope & Samuel Owings, Jr. for a 180 acre parcel of land “Cool Spring,” site located west of present-day Westminster, Carroll County, MD.; signed by Peter Myers, Nicholas Ruxton Gay & William Aisquith (witnesses), and Jonathan Darnall (Clerk) One leaf, with scalloped upper border; 14 1/2” X 12”.

A sample of document reads “This indenture made the 1st day of June, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Four, between Peter Myers of Frederick County of the one part and Benedict Swope of said county and Samuel Owings, Jun. of Baltimore County, of the other part. Now this indenture witnesseth that the said Peter Myers, for and in consideration of the sum of Ninety pounds sterling money of Great Britain, to him in hand paid by the said Benedict Swope and Samuel Owings, Jun., the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, sold, made over, confirmed and by these presents, doth grant, bargain, sell, make over, and confirm  unto the said Benedict Swope and Samuel Owings, Jun., their heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land called Cool Spring, lying and being in Frederick County, beginning at one bounded white oak standing on…a small still about one hundred perches westerly from the Great Meadow Branch draught of Great Pipe Creek, containing and now laid out for one hundred and eighty acres of land more or less…”.
