The Annual Register was the most important annual of its age, offering a year in review for a tumultuous and important time. This year (1776) includes is especially significant as it contains the Declaration of Independence (in what was, at the time, its first publication in a book), the Articles of Confederation, and dozens of pages of details of the War of Independence (Revolutionary War), written as it was happening. This is the third edition of this year\'s chronicle -- it was first published in 1777. The phrase Declaration of Independence does not appear herein. It is called instead (much less powerfully): \"Reasons assigned by the Continental Congress for the North American Colonies and Provinces withdrawing their allegiance to the King of Great Britain.\" Additional points of interest include reviews of books including Adam Smith\'s Wealth of Nations and Gibbon\'s Decline of the Roman Empire. A fascinating piece of history.Pagination shows all present: 1-192 present; then 113-270; and final section with all pages present (1-259 + index). Text block is good and tight and pages are clean, although there are a few stresses and splits to the spine, and the boards have since detached. Spine with gilt ruled deco, titling and 1776 in gilt separated by bands, with some light wear and a sticker. Light edgewear and rubbing to boards. Bookplate from Western Reserve Historical Society, a few lib treatments, else unmarked. Measures 8.5\" x 5.5\". Good luck!
