London: D. Henry, 1776. An exquisite copy of this most rare and historical volume. All twelve issue of the Gentleman’s Magazine for 1776. Clean, neat and complete. The maps and plates are sharp and lovely (some offsetting is all). Handsome leather spine and corners over marbled boards (rubbed and worn). Internally, some light toning but mostly quite crisp and clean and the text is easy to read (though some photos below are less than ideal, do please note that the pages are uniform though they may look otherwise below). The book stands proud for its very early printing (probably the first British printing) of the Declaration of Independence but there is so much more including a great deal of other historic information regarding the colonies, the American Revolution, George Washington, the Continental Congress, &c. The maps are superb and were important during the war. All this and Captain Cook too. A wonderful issue of this rare and valuable volume.
