This rare historic engraving of MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS and HER SON JAMES was published in London in 1779. This antique engraving is printed on thick hand laid paper (see last picture). The sheet size is 24 1/2 x 17 inches. The plate size is 19 x 12 13/16 inches. Engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi (1728-1815) after a painting by Federico Zuccaro (1542-1609). This exquisite engraving is rarely seen at sale, there is a copy that hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and one that hangs in the National Gallery in Washington D.C..This 239 year old engraving has some very light foxing in the margins otherwise it is in very good condition!
