רבי ישמעאל הכהן בסיון ה'תקע"א[1]) רבה של מודנה ומגדולי רבני איטליה במאה ה-18 ובתחילת המאה ה-19. נודע בספרו - שו"ת 'זרע אמת'.

רבי ישמעאל הכהן נולד במודנה לרבי אברהם יצחק הכהן בשנת ה'תפ"ד (1723). אחיו המבוגר רבי דוד הכהן, היה רבה של מודנה וכבר בחיי אחיו היה דורש בישיבה הגדולה ובישיבות הקטנות בעיר.

לאחר פטירת אחיו ביום ט' באלול ה'תקמ"ב מינתה הקהילה את רבי ישמעאל כממלא מקומו. הוא שימש כרב במשך כשלושים שנה עד לפטירתו. כמו כן עמד בראש הישיבה הגדולה והישיבות הקטנות בעיר.

היה בידידות עם הרב החיד"א והתכתב אתו בהלכה.

בתגובה לחיבור "דברי שלום ואמת" מאת נפתלי הרץ ויזל הוא כתב "סדרי הלימודים לילדי בית ישראל".

הקיסר נפוליאון שלח אליו את 12 השאלות ששאל את חכמי ישראל והזמין אותו לאסיפת הנכבדים היהודים ולאספת הסנהדרין של פריז. מפאת גילו הוא לא יכול לנסוע אך הוא השיב עליהם תשובה שבהתאם אליה חיבר הרב יוסף דוד זינצהיים, נשיא ה"סנהדרין של פריס" את תקנות הסנהדרין.

חלק קטן מדרשותיו השבועיות ותשובותיו בהלכה נדפס. תשובות רבות, ספרי דרשות ושירים שכתב נשתמרו בכתב ידו בעברית ובאיטלקית ומפוזרים בספריות בעולם.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: For most individual books, we ship first class mail. Price is by weight, and this service is tracked. For multiple purchases, we usually use Priority Mail, a flat rate envelope for $32 ($22 to Canada) can fit 3 Regular sized books and a flat rate box for $70 ($48 to Canada) can fit 8-10 books of average size. A large flat rate box for $93 ($60 to Canada is available as well and can fit up to 18 books, depending on size. Oversized books are more expensive to ship, please ask for shipping quote for multiple books in advance to prevent any misunderstandings. International postage costs are subject to USPS yearly rate increases.


RETURN CUSTOMERS: Return customers get 7% off every order, from the second shipment and on. This is not deducted automatically, so please request an invoice and we'll send one over asap.


REFUNDS: We offer full refunds within 14 days of purchase.
