A rare original Shaftsbury, Vermont, manuscript court document summoning a witness, dated August 21, 1790 and signed by AMOS HUNTINGTON, Justice of the Peace....Size 5 1/2\" x 7 1/4\", folds, archival repairs, handmade rag paper, good condition, with attestation on reverse that the summons was served.....AMOS HUNTINGTON [1739-1822] served as an officer in the Continental Army at Fort Ticonderoga during the Saratoga Campaign of 1777, and was captured by Hessian soldiers at the Battle of Hubbardton in July, 1777. He was taken to Quebec and placed in the prison ships until October when he was sent to New York as a prisoner of war where he was placed on parole in exchange for a British officer captured at Saratoga. He was finally released in 1782, and returned to his farm.
