Extremely rare printing of of this early monthly American magazine. A remarkable compendium of Americana with articles by Benjamin Rush, Benjamin Franklin, amongst others; subject matter ranging from slavery, the Revolution, early music and poetry, George Washington, the first at length description of Cape Cod, and more important issues and events at the close of the 18th century in America. Lacking plates, sadly, minus the frontis of Bowdoin, which remains present. Original well worn 3/4 leather boards and spine, with rounding and stamped bands to the spine. Front board nearly detached. Pages with light to moderate wear, moderately browned throughout with a few stains and creases/chips and dogears. Signatures and stamps on front and rear pastedowns/ EPs, as shown. Once part of the James Wright Brown Journalistic Collection. A few leaves detached. Mostly present, although a few leaves are lacking here and there. All 12 months are present here. Good luck! Also called the Monthly Museum of Knowledge and Rational Entertainment, it specialized in \"poetry, music, biography, history, physics, geography, morality, criticism, philosophy, mathematics, agriculture, architecture, chemistry, novels, tales, romances, translations, news, marriages, deaths, meteorological observations, etc. etc.\" It was intended as \"a kind of thermometer, by which the genius, taste, literature, history, politics, arts, manners, amusements and improvements of the age and nation, may be ascertained.\"Founded by Isaiah Thomas, the magazine was also published by Ebenezer T.
