This is a rectangular Silver Boxwith hinged cover,decoratively hand-engraved outside with a floral motif, and an applied plate with initials SH to IP.Box is giltwithin.Hinged lid fits neatly.The sides have banding and additional horizontal figures. Nice.
2 1/2\" by 1 5/8\"; or 6.3 by 4.3 cm1.5 troy ounces.I think that Tobacco boxes did not have a hingedlid, but snuff boxes did, and that Tobacco boxes were larger.So, likely this is a snuff box, then.
