17th Century Botanical Print - Hortus Indicus Malabaricus - Medicinal Plants of IndiaThis is image #18 from the book \"Hortus Indicus Malabaricus\", printed in 1686 by Hendrik Van Rheede Tot Draakenstein. (Dutch 1636 -1691) AKA Hendrick Adriaan van Rheede In the upper corner is the name of the plant in Latin, Sanskrit, Arabic, and Malayalam. This is a botanical illustration out of an important 17th century book about early medicinal plants of India. The Latin name for the plant shown is \"Belilla\" and it has very pretty pink 5 petal flower blossoms. The color is bright and the paper is in very good condition, some foxing, but very minimal and only in a couple of small spots. It appears to be two sheets that are joined together with a crease down the center (as issued). There is a bit of a mirrored effect from it having been folded in the past (with both pages facing each other) where the ink rubbed off onto the other page - but only very faintly and only near the bottom - at the stem of the branch (seen in photo 3). The plate imprint can bee seen in the photos, as well as bleed through of the ink can be seen on the back of the paper. It is \"as found\" it was professionally matted and framed - the framing job looks to be 20 or 30 years old. For shipping it will be in the matting but without the frame or glass. Just to be clear - the frame seen is not included. This appears to be an authentic hand colored copper plate engraving although I found this at a thrift storeandI am not an expert, soI cannot guarantee its authenticity. Sold As Is. All Sales Final.
