3.25\" tall x 2.4\" at widest point. Very good condition an old base chip visible in photos. Dating late 18th to early 19th century this is a charming Arita / Imari porcelain cup that was used for dipping soba noodles and probably other purposes, much as they are still used today in Japan. These were made in myraid styles and designs are remain extremely popular for use and collecting in Japan and abroad. Porcelain was first made at Arita in Kyushu Japan by a Korean potter and by the late 17th century had begun to be exported world wide. Following this period porcelain production spread to different locations in Japan and it can be hard to differentiate the origin of pieces especially in 19th century. This style cup if loved by collectors of folk art or \"Mingei\" in Japan and abroad.
