An excerpt from the Theory of Teaching:
\"The chid business of a teacher is to devise suitable work for every pupil during every minute of the day and to see that that work is done. \'Deeds are better than words.\' is a good motto is school. The pupils should not memorize with our seeing for themselves what thy are learning Too much memory work is not good it weakens the memory while if one can work out any things for ourselves it strengthens the mind and it will be useful aftwerwards, as one shall again be able to work it our if one trust entirely to our memory one shall often try to recall it when we will be suitable to do so.\"
