This is a Mariners Compass with a 30X magnification jewelers style monocle.
Dated from 1789 - 1860.
An original piece of bone carving by a seafarer.
Held together with dowels. No screws, or metal pins.
Monocle has tiny air bubbles.
Compass works, and a red French fleur de lis shows north.
Surface has its original natural patina.
No makers mark.

1st – There is a lighthouse, mountains, and a sailing vessel.
2nd – A merchants ship, a tail dipping into the water.
Scrimshaw is the traditional seaman\'s art of etching seafaring scenes on hard materials.
Condition –
The compass and monocle are in place, with cracks on both loops, possible repair. A dowel end cap is missing. The monocle has bubbles, and light surface scratches, but nothing that occludes its usage.
This is an original, super rare hand carved compass in excellent condition.
Sure to be a nice addition to any collection.
