1809 HAND COLORED ETCHNG, PILLORY CHARING CROSS, MICROCOSM OF LONDON, ROWLANDSON:
$49.99

This sale is for an 1809 dated hand colored etching titled Pillory Charing Cross. It it marked Plate 62 and is part of a collection titled Microcosm of London. The etching was created by Thomas Rowlandson and August Pugin. It was published in London at R. Ackermann\'s Repository of Arts, 101 Strand. The image features two men being pilloried, while a large crowed views it as entertainment while cavorting about. The image is 10 1/4 by a bit less than 8 inches. The paper it is on measures 13 inches across and I cannot determine its total height because it is stuck inside a matting. The matting measures 15 by 13 1/4 inches. The matting is damaged with a chunk missing from the bottom. It is also age toned and soiled. The same it true with the image. The title is faded and there is a tiny tear to the paper at the bottom where the matting was torn, but this does not extend into the lettering or etching. There are no water stains. PLEASE NOTE: Some dark fuzzy spots visible in some images are flaws in camera lens and are not on art. Payment accepted with Paypal.
