This letter, dated 1815, New York, is written and signed by Jonathan Edward Robinson (1777 - 1831)to his cousin David Robinson in Bennington,Vermont. In this letter, Jonathan relates that rejoicing is called for as the reign of Federal terror has come to an end and the effects of a Republican administration should soon be felt.He also addresses the fact that his father, Judge Jonathan Robinson, will probably act as Judge of Probate, and perhaps the new Supreme Court will remove the old clerk and appoint Merrill Stevens...he hopes David will be able to sell his house for him so he can move on..signed Jonathan. Letter is 8x12, two pages, addressed outer leaf, folds, mild toning, else in overall good condition.

Jonathan Edward Robinson (1777 - 1831) Promoted to Captain in the Vermont Militia in 1800; promoted to Colonel in 1813. Assistant Judge, Bennington County, 1827-1828. Leader of the church choir.
