William Morgan, c.1774-c1826, was abducted and apparently murdered shortly before the publication of his exposé \"Illustrations of Masonry.\" His disappearance had a profound effect on the politics of the time. The two frontispieces are a portrait of Morgan and \"The Masonic Assassination of Akirop, by Joabert.\" 2 plates. First edition of the book which, according to Cummings may well be termed \'The Bible of the Anti-Masons\' The most exhaustive contemporary account of the Morgan scandal written by a prominent member of the fraternity who renounced his connection as a result of it. The rarity of his book has been explained as resulting from copies having been bought up and destroyed by loyal members. Original leather binding in great shape with hinges and joints intact, the spine with gilt rule and a red and gilt title label, as shown. Complete in all aspects. Measures 7.25\" x 4.5\".
