An antique French Artillery short sword or side arm with scabbard dating from the 1830\'s.
Marked on one side of the blade: Chatellerault and the date 183?; last number looks like a 3.
Other side of blade: Pihet Freves.
The brass handle is ribbed and has circular designs on the sides; is marked with the number 991.
Leather scabbard with brass ends has a name embossed / stamped in the leather which we could not decipher. Brass is marked with the numbers 42 and 37 and a B inside a mark. Leather shows wear and scratches and measures 20\" long.
The double edge blade measures about 19\". Blade has some light pitting and some nicks on the edges; tip is slightly bent. Overall measurement of the sword is about 25\".
Overall measurement with sword in the scabbard is 26\".
