Stampless folded letter with \"Phillips Me\" manuscript postmark and manuscript \"6\" rate, addressed to Miss Julia Eastman, at Strong, Maine.

Letter contents from \"Colist\", to her friend Julia.

The letter is to Julia A. Eastman, (1815-1887), born in Strong, Maine. In 1835, she married Phillip Stubbs. Her brother, Ben. C. Eastman,(1812-1856), moved to Wisconsin Territory in the 1840\'s, and served in the U.S. Congress from Wisconsin, 1851-1855.

The letter has no year date, but can be dated as the early 1830\'s, as Julia married in 1835, and this cover is addressed to her before her becoming Mrs. Stubbs.

The letter includes:

\"Dear Julia,

At a late hour in Sophia\'s chamber at midnight, I will write you one word. I hardly know what to say. I think of so much and have so little time to say it in. Sherburne has just been up here and frightened me so I fear my writing will be illegible; besides, it is a bitter cold night and Sherburne says the mail closes in a few minutes, so many apologies. Iknow you will excuse this if I will promise to write you a long and more comprehensive one. I want to see you very much. Be sure and write me the next mail. Sophia is teasing me to go to bed. Come up do, and spend a week and spend half the time with me.

I must offer you good night. Do write me the next mail or very much disappoint me.

Sincerely yours,

Colist

I am ashamed of this scrawl. Burn it.\"

Fine.
