As regards restoration, leather starts failing after 100 years depending on usage. Any large Victorian Bible exceeding this age almost invariably will need the front and back covers reattached to the body of the Bible using new leather.

On display is a unique copy of an 1833 Old and New Testament Bible. It was printed by G.M. Davison in Saratoga Springs. It contains a Chronological Index, A Table of Time, A Table of Offices and Conditions of Men,and much, much more. Heavy foxing is present throughout as shown in the pictures above, all of which is an expected condition of age. It is missing the main title page and does start on the firstpage of Genesis. The New Testament title page is present and shown above.

The Bible has had the front and back cover as well as spine professionally reattached. Parts of the original spine were able to be saved and has been reattached in order to preserve the integrity of the Bible. Please check photos to verify. Holy Bible is inlaid on the spine. The color is a magnificent deep, deep crimson sunset hue with the gold embossing set against it. This is a very rare color, especially for the Victorian era.

This is a unique example of a Pre Victorian Bible and while not having checked every page it does appear to becomplete. It measures 11 1/4\" x 9 1/12 \" x 2\". This is a very large family bible weighing in just under 5 pounds. There is no family history present. It is of course used and does show the expected wear and tear associated with its age. This particular Bible has had an interesting life and is being sold as is. As such it is being started at a very low starting price.

This is an incredible opportunity to own a piece of history in the form of an authentic Victorian Bible printed in the 1800\'s. It would make an exellent display piece that could be opened to the Title Page, or left closed to show the spectacular crimson sunset cover.
