Please examine photos. They are THIS item and are part of the description. I do not use stock photos or photos of other people’s items.

This is apair ofmid 1800s \"Burling Iron\" tweezers (used to pluck foreign objects from woolenitems etc.) They have been in my research box for ages. I keep coming back to them wanting to decipher the maker\'s mark before listing them. After almost going blind several times, today I had that Eureka moment. The mark is not complete but these were made by J. (either Josephor John)Turnpenny in Yeadon, a township in Leeds, West Yorkshire England, home to many textile mills. What can be seen of this mark is _URNPENNY on one line and YEADON below. For the longest time I could only make out URNP and YEADON.To my dismay now, searches for Yeadon Tweezers turned up nothing. Google only gets you so far. Once I figured out the name Turnpenny, it got easier. Several people have done genealogical research on their Turnpenny relatives. Who knew I would actually find reference to Turnpenny TWEEZERS in their results! One researcher thought a pair of Turnpenny marked tweezers \"belonged to John Turnpenny\" of Yeadon 1803-1871. They may well have, but they were apparently alsoMADE by John (or his fatherJoseph Turnpenny 1764-1843).Joseph\'s professionappears in censusvariously as Razor Grinder 1786 and Umbrella Maker 1841.Son John\'s profession appears in census 1838 Cutler, (1841 Umbrella Maker), 1851 Cutler and1861 Tinner. This information is care of the couple of researchers, I have not seen these censes. The tweezers they refer to are the fourth listing photo here. Those tweezersappear to be a later, more refined, certainly better marked pair than the ones I am offering. So I am betting these were in fact made by John Turnpenny (1803-1871), early in his career as Cutler/Tinner (c. 1838-1861). And there, as they say, you have it!
