Eighteen volumes of Alison\'s History of Europe.

Uniformly bound in a beautiful green calf \'White\' of Pall Mall binding.

Ex-Libris Edward Vernon Harcourt, English naturalist and Conservative politician. Harcourt was born in Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire. His bookplate is present to all volumes and shows his family joining his wife\'s Holroyd family through marriage. It is armorial with the two family crest\'s merged with a peacock sat on top and the Harcourt family motto on a scroll below \'Le bon temps viendra\'.

Collated, complete.

Consisting of the complete ten volumes of his History of Europe From the commencement of the French Revolution in 1789 to the Restoration of the Bourbons in 1815 and the complete eight volumes of his continuation, History of Europe From The Fall of Napoleon in 1815 to the Accession of Louis Napoleon in 1852.

Sir Archibald Alison was a Scottish advocate and historian.HisHistory of Europewas his first publication and his chief work. It is considered to be the first scholarly English-language work to study the French Revolution.Since its first publicationHistoryhas been published in manyforeign languages.

CONDITION

In uniformly bound White bindings, as indicated from the stamp to verso of front endpapers. Gilt stamping to the board edges and spines, withall edges gilt. Externally, very smart.Just very minor rubbing to the head and tail of spines, extremities and joints. Volume V is particularly rubbed to head of spine compared to other volumes.Volumes 1-10 have faded slightly due to ageing compared to volumes 11-18.Prior owner\'s bookplate to front pastedown of all volumes, with the motto \'le bon temps viendra\' this book was ex-libris of Edward Vernon Harcourt. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Volumes 1-9 have minorcockling to pages due to damp.Pages are bright with the odd spot throughout. Ribbon bookmark present to all volumes leading to some offsetting in places. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED.
