1844 Henry Clay Presidential Campaign Token / Medalet "hc 1844-36" For Sale
Rare, original, 1844 Henry Clay Brass, Presidential Campaign Token / Medalet. This original 1844 Presidential Campaign item measures approx. 1" in diameter and features a classical, bust portrait of Clay on the obverse with text at the top that reads "Henry Clay / The Ashland Farmer" and text below that reads "Born April 12, 1877". There is a date below the truncation that reads "1844". The reverse features a central image of a Set of Balance Scales with banners on the pans that read "Whigs" and "Democrats". Text surrounding the Scale reads "Weighed in the Balance & Found Wanting". This Medalet is identified by Sullivan as No. HC 1844-36.
This original, Henry Clay Presidential Campaign Token / Medalet is in very good, original condition. There is some wear to the highest spots of the design but is well [preserved overall. The strike is strong and the Medalet attractive.
