Fourth edition.

Dr Thomas Arnold (1795 - 1842) was a British educator and historian. Arnold was an early supporter of the Broad Church Anglican movement. He was headmaster of Rugby School from 1828 to 1841, where he introduced a number of reforms.

Arthur Penrhyn Stanley (1815 - 1881) was an English churchman, Dean of Westminster, known as Dean Stanley. His position was that of a Broad Churchman and he was the author of works on Church History.

CONDITION

In a cloth binding. Externally, generally smart but with slight bumping and wear to extremities, slightrubbing and marks to boards. Internally, generally firmly bound although slightly strained in places. Bright but with the odd spot and handling marks, mostly to text block edge, foxing to frontispiece. Loss to front free endpaper where previous ink inscription has been removed.
