1854 Davis & Kidder\'s Magneto-Electric Quackery Medicine Shock Machine:
$190.00

This is Medical Quackery, Davis and Kidder\'s electric shock medical box \"for nervous diseases\" 1854. This has original body, part tubes, wires directions for use are located inside the lid. The magneto and gears run freely when I turn them slowly by hand. Measurements: 10\" X 4.5\" X 4.5\" Weighs about 6 pounds. Very old and original. This early electro-therapeutic device produces alternating current electricity. The strength and frequency of the current is controlled by changing the cranking speed. Electricity is generated by a pair of solenoids that spin against the poles of a large horseshoe magnet. Gears and pulleys drive the spinning solenoids at a high rate of speed as the crank is turned.
The machine itself is in good shape. Everything internally runs as it should providing quite the shock when you get it running pretty fast. The hand tubes are in a little rough shape. The tubes are dented and the copper have duct tape on both ends holding them on. When using the machine this duct tape prevents the electricity from getting to your hands, the only way to \"feel\" it is by touching the two collars on the outside of the box.
