This history of England was written by Scottish writer Charles Macfarlane, known for his historical and travel works as well as his novel. They are edited by Thomas Napier Thomson. Thomson was aScottish minister and writer, knownasa historian and biographer.
This history, regards the civil and military,religious, intellectual and social history of England. It discusses all monarchies, wars and socialwellbeingfrom the earliest times, before the Roman invasion, to the close of the Russian war.
CONDITION
In original blue blind-stamped and gilt-stamped bindings. Externally, generally smart. Bumping to the head and tail of spines and some rubbing to the joints. Small loss to head of spines to volumes I V, XI, XII, IX, and I. Small loss to tail of spines to volumes I, XII, IX and X. Internally, volumes are generally firmly bound. To volumeVIII pages 187-190have been removed, though are loosely inserted. Pages are generally bright. Volumes II, III, V, VI, VII, VIII, X XI and XII have the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Volume I has scattered spots throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages. Volume IX has heavy spotting to the first and last few pages with odd spot throughout. Heavy spotting to thefirst and last few pages of volume IV with scattered spots throughout. Overall: VERYGOOD.
