(1856) CHINESE TEMPLE HONG KONG, (China) antique tinted lithograph from the Perry expedition published in 1856 as part of a report issued by the US Senate under the title Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan covering the years 1852-1853-1854. Hong Kong was one of the ports visited by this voyage.This is an individual plate from that report printed one side only on heavyweight paper it measures 8.5 x 11.5\" in horizontal with image area somewhat smaller. It shows multiple figures in front of a building with mountains in the distance and foliage on either side. Tones are cream, grey, black and sepia. There is a faint marginal stain to the upper right corner. Credit lines say in left corner: From nature by Heine, fig by Brown; In right corner: Lith of Sarony & Co., NY. Original 1856 publication.
