We are pleased to present an antique, circa 1860-1864 original paper lantern from a President Lincoln inauguration. A truly remarkable and important piece of American history. It it red, white, and blue, with UNION on one side and a Flag shield on the other. It folds accordion-style and I have extended it about 11\" tall but am reluctant to stretch it more due to the old paper. The top and bottom are cardboard with a diameter of 7.5\" inches, the bottom is mounted with a tin candle cup. Wire bail. There are some old wax drips on top and inside. There are some visible splits to the paper seams around the lantern, including a larger 4.5\" inch split at the top above the shield. I have only found one other sample of a lantern like this for sale on (in 2010) and there is a similar one at the Gettysburg Museum in Gettysburg. Provenance: From the collection of the late Peter F.
