Here we offer a rare relic of American history: the classicPolitical Debates Between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, published by Follett, Foster and Company , Columbus, for Abraham Lincoln in 1860. This is the third edition, third state, printed in the first year of printing, recognized by the ad for W.D. Howells biography and the \"2\" signature number at the bottom of page 13.

Lincoln travelled around Illinois debating Douglas for the Illinois Senate seat in 1858, and lost. He then compiled and edited the newspaper clippings he\'d saved of all those Senate debates into this book, which he published in 1860 in the midst of his campaign for president against Stephen Douglas, and he won the campaign with help from this book.

Ex-college-library book has various library markings (features \"WITHDRAWN\" stamp on plate at inside front board endpage.) It has been rewrapped at the spine with book trape, but still has its original boards. Much foxing at front and rear endpages and removed library plates (please see pics.) Binding is tight and square, text is bright and crisp, period inscribed. I found a single mark in red pen on interior pages, which I pictured. 268 pages, plus several pages of ads; approximately 10 x 7-inches.
This would make a treasured addition to your rare books collection or a very special gift.
