1860\'s - 1/6 Tintype: Soldier?1/6 plate with full Patriotic \'Cannon\' Union Case
Matte-finish tintype with tax stamps on reverse, in original Patriotic Case. The only damage to the case other than light wear, is a small hole (thin nail size) in the bottom of the front section, presumably where a stand formerly was connected. The image itself is definitely Civil War era - matte finish, correct size, tax stamps on reverse. With the case featuring a Civil War theme with cannons, and the patriotic preserver (stars in corners), my best guess is that the image is of a soldier or former soldier. The piece originally came with only the case, image and preserver, but showed indications that a double-eliptical mat had once been in place - I added such a mat, as well as a piece of protective glass.
