Original, 1860’s CDV Photograph of an armed Union Zouave Civil War Soldier believed to have been from Vermont. This wonderful CDV Photo measures approx. 2 1/2\" by 4\" (including the original card mount). The CDV features a full length portrait of an unidentified soldier wearing a Zouave style cap and uniform. The soldier stands in a photographer’s studio grasping the barrel of his rifle the butt of which rests on the floor. His cap is the nightcap style headgear of the Zouave soldier and he wears a balloon style jacket and pants with spats
The Soldier is VERY young, certainly in his teens, yet he has the look of one who has \"seen the elephant\" many times. Unfortunately, this Image is not identified in any way - the soldier is not named and there is no photographer\'s markings. This CDV along with the other 2 Civil War Soldier Photographs which we are offering in this week\'s sale, came to us from a Vermont source and we believe that the soldier might be from Vermont but we are not sure.
This rare, CDV Portrait of an armed Union Zouave Civil War Soldier is in fair to good condition only. The image is somewhat toned and soiled and has a strong, central horizontal crease as can be seen in the scans below. The card mount is edge worn and soiled as seen in the scans below.
