1860's-1870's Presidential / Political Campaign / Parade Torch Torchlight Parade For Sale
Rare and original, ca1860’s or 1870’s American Political Campaign / Parade Torch used by political organizations during Torchlight Parades which were a common form of demonstration during Political Campaigns of the 19th century.
This wonderful, original Campaign Parade Torch measures approx. 41 1/2" long overall and features a 37” long wooden handle with a hand soldered, tin torch affixed to the top. The Torch is formed in the shape of a canister and projecting from the top of the canister is the original tin burner with what appears to be an original, period wick made of cotton batting.
The Torch is mounted on a tin gimbal allowing it to remain upright while being carried by a marcher. The gimbal is attached to a tin “sleeve” that fits over the end of the shaft / handle and is affixed there by a hand cut nail. We are told that this form of Parade Torch was typical of those used in the 1860’s and 1870’s and both the construction and materials are consistent with this date of manufacture.
This rare and quite wonderful, mid 19th century Campaign Parade Torch is in very good condition. The tin canister form torch head is intact, sound and without significant wear or damage of any kind - no breaks, dents, rust, holes or repairs. The wooden pole handle is intact and sound with no breaks or repairs. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the form and condition of this wonderful American Parade Torch.
A very rare and quite wonderful, ca1860’s or 1870’s American Political Campaign / Parade Torch and a fantastic addition to any Political Americana Collection!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
