Rare and original, ca1860’s or 1870’s American Political Campaign / Parade Torch used by political organization during Torchlight Parades which were a common form of demonstration during Political Campaigns of the 19th century. These were also used by firemen during night time parades.

This very rare and original, single burner Campaign Parade Torch measures approx. 8” tall overall and the reservoir is 5” in diameter. The Torch is formed in the shape of a rounded bottom canister and projecting from the top of the canister is the original tin. The Torch retains the original, tin gimbal mount that would have slipped over the end of a wooden rod as well as its original wick.

The Torch offered here would have originally been mounted on a long wooden pole and carried by participants of in an Election / Campaign Torch Light Parade. This form of Parade Torch was typical of those used in the 1860’s and 1870’s and both the construction and materials are consistent with this date of manufacture.

This rare and original, mid 19th century Campaign Parade Torch is in very good condition. The tin canister form torch head is intact, sound and very well preserved with no damage or repairs of any kind. The Torch retains the original, screw in burner and period wick.
