1860's Civil War Soldier In Uniform Cased Tintype Photo In Gutta Percha Case For Sale
Rare and original, 1860's, Cased Tintype Photograph of a Civil War Union Soldier in an excellent condition, gutta percha case. This wonderful, 1/ plate size, Tintype Photo measures approx. 1 3/4" by 2 1/4" and is housed in geometric patter, thermoplastic / gutta percha case (identified by Berg as 3-351)
The Tintype depicts an Unidentified Union Army Soldier wearing a high crown kepi and single breasted shell jacket. This is a bust portrait of the young Soldier likely seated in a chair in a photographer's studio.
The Image is not identified in any way and while we cannot give any concrete evidence of the identity or service of this Soldier, we offer it here as simply a very nice, Civil War Tintype Photograph as pictured below.
This rare and original, 1860's, Tintype Photo is in very good condition. The Image exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. The surface is stable and sound with no scratches, flaking, surface damage, or surface crazing of any kind. As stated above, the image is housed in full, thermoplastic / gutta percha case which is in very good condition. The case is very well preserved with sharp corners and no chips, cracks, surface wear, repairs or damage of any kind. One of the two hinges is just a hair loose but there is no associated chipping or damage.
A rare and very attractive, 1860's Tintype Photograph of a Civil War Union Soldier in a very well preserved gutta percha case and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
