Very rare and original, 1860\'s CDV Photograph of John Wilkes Booth, Assassin of President Abraham Lincoln, taken by Charles Deforest Fredricks approx. one year before the \"famous\" actor became the infamous assassin. This outstanding, period photograph measures approx. 2 3/8” by 3 3/4” and is mounted on its original, square cornered, CDV Card Mount (overall size of card mount is 2 5/8\" by 4\").

This is a very rare portrait of Booth (which was taken in 1863 or 1864) is known as the “top-coat” pose - a 3/4 length portrait of Booth wearing leather gloves and fur-lined overcoat. This is a later pose of the soon-to-be damned assassin... his hair is shorter and there is an almost forlorn expression on his face.His right hand is in his pocket and he hold the lapel of his coat with his left hand. The card mount is blank backed however the portrait is a well documented Photograph taken by Fredricks.

This very rare and highly desirable, albumen, CDV Photo of John Wilkes Booth in very good condition. The Photograph itself exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. There are some scattered spots of staining to the Photo and the card mount has some light edge wear.

A very rare and highly sought after, historical CDV Photograph of the Assassin of President Abraham Lincoln taken about one year before the accomplished actor became the universally vilified assassin and a fantastic addition to any collection!!
