Beautiful, 1860’s \"Gutta Percha” / Sixth Plate / Thermoplastic Daguerreotype / Photograph Hard Case with a fantastic, Military / Patriotic motif titled \"Crossed Cannons\" in outstanding, near mint condition. This beautiful Union Case measures approx. 3 1/4” x 3 3/4” (outer measurements) and the interior openings would accommodate a 1/6 Plate size Image.

The molded design on the front and back of the Case is identical and features a central image of crossed cannons above a stack of cannonballs surmounted by battle Flags and a liberty cap. This central image is flanked by American Flags and has federal shields at the top center and at the lower corners. The Case is a brilliant, rich and warm brown color and exceptionally attractive. It is designated as Berg No. 1-54 and titled “Crossed Cannons”.

The Case is empty as can be seen in the scans below and would make a beautiful presentation for use with a Civil War Soldier Ambrotype or Tintype (even a pre-Civil War Military Daguerreotype).

This rare and stunningly beautiful, 1860\'s Union Case is in excellent to near mint condition. The molded images on both sides are crisp and sharp with no damage or wear to even the highest points of the design. The surface is bright and retains its original brilliant surface shine. The corners are rounded (as manufactured) and without wear or damage and there are no edge chips, wear, cracks, repairs or damage of any kind. All of the eight corners are clean and smooth without the hint of roughage. The case closes squarely and latches tightly. This is one of the best preserved examples of ANY Hard Case we have handled over the past 34+ years!!

A very rare and very attractive, 1860’s, Sixth Plate, Figural Military / Patriotic Motif Gutta Percha / Thermoplastic Daguerreotype Union Case in exceptionally well preserved condition and a fantastic addition to any collection!!
