1861 Civil War Soldier Letter - TUTTLE - 16th Ohio LIGHT ARTILLERY - St. Louis. Daniel Tuttle writing to his brother. Dated Sept 20, 1861. This is soon after they were mustered into service on Sept 5, at Cincinnati. Writes of gangs of prisoners brought in to the arsenel . At end of letter he writes " at least one Capt. said we might probably stay here all winter ... Please write some and direct to me in care of Capt. J.H. Mitchell light artillery . The boys says quit writing and go and get some peaches" .
SIZE: Measures about 4 7/8" x 8 ", 4 pages.
