1860 AESTHETIC GREEK NEOCLASSIC BY REED& BARTON


Reed & Barton is a prominent American silversmith manufacturer based in the city of Taunton, Massachusetts operating between 1824 and 2015. Its products include sterling silver and silverplate flatware the company produced many varieties of Britannia and silver products since Henry G. Reed and Charles E. Barton took over the failing works of Issacc Babbitt in Taunton. During the American civil war, Reed & Barton produced a considerable quantity of weapons for Union Army soldiers and officers.

Within the transition to the aesthetic period, the neoclassic designs were among the most welcomed by the Victorian society becoming one of the strongest motifs used to enhance all sort housewares and most importantly tableware impressive collections were made during the avid race to be the first to accomplish the demands of this new era.

For your consideration an early piece, hard to find within this pattern (1650) original by Reed & Barton, then produced by others like Rogers Smith, and Meriden Brittania piece in very good condition showing no dents, monograms, breaks, repairs, firm handle perfectly working hinge and clean inside, rich patina at the hard to reach areas and some rough areas as pictured overall bright mirrored, no leaks, , firm handle, and strong hinge, original bright plating with some cosmetic details and signs of wear as pictured. overall nice over 140 years old piece in outstanding shape perfect as a display or use if desired8 3/4\" by 5 1/2\" 1.0 lbs weight,
