Rare document indicating that Union soldier (Confederate prisoner) C.D. Frye of the 42nd Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, has been paroled and will escorted via the steamship \'General Quitman\', to Vicksburg Mississippi. This would have placed Sergeant Frye in a precarious position, as Grant was at that time moving on Vicksburg where the siege would begin in May.
Attached to a piece of red construction paper and somewhat dirty and faded in areas. I am not sure if this can be safely removed from the construction paper, but I would not count on it - it is only attached in areas, but I have not messed with it much. The presence of the construction paper could actually be helpful for attaching the piece to matting for framing and display.
