February 8, 1863-Dated Civil War Period, Good Content Union Soldier\'s Two-Part Autograph Letter Signed, \"Charles M. Hodge\", 6th Connecticut Infantry, Ordnance Department, Hilton Head, South Carolina, Fine.
This historic War-date Union soldier\'s Autograph Letter is written to his nephew, 2 pages, measuring about 8\" x 9.5\", Quarto, with mailing folds with scattered moderate tone and wear, having good content. It reads, in part: \"...An expedition to leave here very soon. There is three or four Iron Clads here. One is the larger Steamer Ironsides, a very nice & strong vessel. Probably an attack will be made upon Charleston or Savannah. This post has received large reinforcements, command by General Foster from North Carolina... I am tied down by military rules. Work every minute like a damned Negro & then the officers not satisfied...What is Slavery but This...?\" A fully typed complete transcription, plus additional Xerox of historical content information accompanies.
