This is a Civil War soldier\'s letter written at Newport, NC on June 14, 1863 and post marked June 18th. It is written by Henry E. Beeby of the 3rd New York Cavalry to his brother Oscar Beeby. \"expect to hear every day that you and Jim has been drafted. You must not voluntier until I get home. What do you think of Hooker. It is a wonder his head hasent com off he is like the King of France marched up the hill with ten thousand men and then march down again with not quiet so many. I think they want the never tiring 2 NY Cav before they can accomplish and whip old Lee. We shall have to com I suppose as soon as we left Poolsville they ware thare they never tryed to cross the Potomac when we the 3 was thare but i have braged enough. I saw in the paper that Capt Townsend of the 149th left his Com. He use to be Chaplain in our Regt. We did not think he amounted to much and I guess we ware right \" etc. etc. A 3 page letter in very nice condition. Shipping includes insurance.
