This is a Civil War era letter by an Ohio soldier (Jim Frazier) and was written at Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1864.  The name Goldsboro is spelled \"Goldsborough\" at the top of the letter but I am assuming that it is a misspelling.  The letter was found with the typed trancscription shown in the above photos.  The letter measures approx. 5\" x 8\" and folds over.  Almost all of the writing is on the front page with only a couple of lines written on the back.  The letter has lots of overall wear (overall yellowing and browning, lots of staining and spotting/foxing, several creases and folds, some small holes along one of the folds on the back paper where no writing is located).  The ink is faded and hard to read.  There is no envelope/cover with this letter.  Here is a transcription of the second paragraph.  \"Well Everything looks prosperous to us now.  Richmond has falln what say the copperheads now.  I supposee they are satrisfied with Gen Grant now.  It is my opinion that there will be but little fighting done.  I won\'t have time to write more at this time so I will close\".Also shown in the images above are a couple of pages from a history book about Jim Frazier and his regiment (104th Ohio Volunteers Infantry).  I will include a photocopy of this page and send it along with the certificate.See my others listings for another Civil War document relating to this man\'s father.
