Being numbers 130, 148 and 155, from the years 1868, 1870 and 1871, respectively.

The Atlantic Monthlywas an American magazine founded in 1857 in Boston, Massachusetts. It was created as a literary and cultural commentary magazine andquickly achieved a national reputation, which it has held for more than 150 years.

It was important for recognising and publishing new writers and poets, and encouraging major careers. It published leading writers\' commentary on abolition, education, and other major issues in contemporary political affairs.

The magazine\'s founders were a group of prominent writers of national reputation, who included Harriet Beecher Stowe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., John Greenleaf Whittier and James Russell Lowell.

Contributors to these three volumes include Longfellow, George Eliot, and Bret Harte.

Other features include biographies, reviews and literary notices.

First editions.

CONDITION

Bound in original paper wraps. Externally, sound, some small marks to wraps, closed tears and very minor loss to extremities and chipping and lifting to backstrips. Rear wrap of 1870 detached but present. Internally, firmly bound. 1868 foxed, other volumes really rather bright and clean with only a few instances of light spotting.
