AN AMAZING, ORIGINAL MID 19TH CENTURY (1869-1871) OHIO MERCHANT MANUSCRIPT ACCOUNT BOOK potentially from the prominent VAN FLEET FAMILY?This remarkable early volume was kept by a merchant/farmer/appraiser (possibly Master of Chancery) of Ohio and dates from 1869-1871. The individuals entries include his many merchant related sales and arrangements made with several local merchants and individuals which includes hundreds of itemized listings and prices for a variety of interesting goods and services including a dung fork, a blind yearling, a 3 year old Colt AS WELL AS a list of appraisements!

I have traced this account book to Delaware County, Ohio by researching several of the names entered in it. Unfortunately, I was unable to determine who the exact owner of the account book was. However, I do think that it is from a member of the prominent Van Fleet family of Ohio for the majority of the entries are pertaining to many different members of the family leading me to believe it was a family member or an individual tied closely to the family! 94 pp. in total with all but 20 or so pages filled out with hundreds of individual line items by an interesting Ohio merchant. With the exception of some pencil written pages this account book was entirely hand written by BLANK in tremendous period ink!In Good overall condition with splendid blue and black marbled boards and a handsome burnt sienna red spine. Light exterior wear, shelf wear, corner bumping. Front board hinge cracked and is a bit loose but remains attached; binding is strong and tight and all page groupings are secure. Heavy wear to spine and chipping to extremities.Boasts a very well preserved interior with clean paper with gentle age toning. Only light scattered hints of spotting or wear; bright and vibrant. First 6 or so pages look to have been ripped out by a previous owner. All in all quite presentable for being nearly 150 years old!Measures 6\" x 7 5/8\". 94 total pages!
