Exceptionally rare and original, 1868 Presidential Campaign Jugate Albumen Cabinet Card Photograph Portrait of Ulysses S. Grant and Schuyler Colfax in the style of the Presidential Campaign Banners / Campaign Posters!!

This fantastic 1868 Presidential Campaign Photo measures approx. 5 5/6” by 3 7/8” and is mounted on its original card mount (overall size of card mount is 6 1/2" by 4 1/8"). The Photograph features a pair of outstanding photo portraits – one titled “Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, U.S.A.” and the other “Hon. Schuyler Colfax / Speaker of House of Representatives of 39th Congress”. Each portrait photo is copyright 1868. The vignette portraits are superimposed on a dark background creating a Campaign banner style display.

This wonderful 1868 Presidential Campaign Banner Cabinet Card Photograph is blank backed and does not carry a photographer's or publisher's mark.

This rare and fascinating, 1868 Presidential Campaign, Jugate Banner type Cabinet Card Photograph is in very good condition. The Photograph exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality but does have some light soiling and a tiny edge tear at the bottom of the Grant image. The Card Mount is soiled and edge worn.

Over the past 38+ years we have handled a handful of CDV Jugate Campaign Portraits of Grant and Colfax from the 1868 Presidential Election – those Images are rare but do surface now and then. We have never, however, come across this fascinating Cabinet Card version and believe it to be exceptionally rare!!
