1870s SALT LAKE CITY MORMON GARDO HOUSE STEREOVIEW PHOTOGRAPH / PHOTO By CARTER:
$9.00

Wonderful and rare, original, 1870\'s Western Americana Stereoview Photograph of Salt Lake City, Utah taken by the famous Mormon Photographer Charles W. Carter. This fascinating photo is titled on the mount \"President Brigham Young\'s Residence.\" and picture one of the three Mansion Homes belonging to Brigham Young - territorial governor and second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The Mormon Church). The Stereoview photo measures approx. 7\" by 3 1/2\" and is mounted on its original light green colored, flat card mount. The front of the mount features text that reads \"Stereoscopic Gems of Utah Scenery By C. W. Carter and the back of the card mount carries Carter\'s mark.

During the last years of his life, Brigham Young perceived a need for a place where he could receive official callers and entertain the dignitaries who traveled great distances to see him. This idea goes as far back as the Nauvoo Era, in which Joseph Smith proposed a similar idea under the name of the Mansion House. The Mansion House was to act as a place for travelers to come and stay in Nauvoo with hospitality in mind. Young was fond of naming his homes - one source claims that he borrowed the name Gardo from a favorite Spanish novel.

This rare and fascinating Stereoview Photo is in very good condition. The Image itself exhibits sharp focus and good contrast and tonality although both Images are somewhat light. There is a tiny blemish at the top edge of the left hand Image and the card mount has some soiling and light edge.

A rare and wonderful, 1870’s Stereoview Photograph of one of the Homes of the leader of the Church of Latter Day Saints at Salt Lake City and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
