Burgundy cloth boards have blindstamped designson front and rear. Lettering and decoration on spine is faded gilt. Cloth has minor soiling. Top corners and spine ends are bumped but there\'s little wear and nothing is worn through. Hinges are intact with the exception of a short break at center front. This has not weakened the hinge. This was an ex-library book from the DeLancy Cole Camp No. 78, Sons Of Veterns in Peekskill NY. The only markings is a stamp on ffep proclaiming that ownership and a label on inner cover. The ffep was stuck to the next blank page, and when separated, resulted in two small holes in ffep (see last pic). The internal binding is very tight. Pages only very slightly toned and otherwise clean. There are 3 tissue guarded b&w plates, a map on plain paper and the tissue guarded frontispiece.

This was written in 1869, before he became the 18th President, so concentrates on his youth and military service. At the end are 30 pages of letters to and from Grant concerning the Civil War.

Overall condition is Very Good
